π± Most plants thrive well in ordinary soil.Β
π±Β Soil should consist of thirds sand, clay and organic compost.(stones, gravel help in drainage too)
π±Β Just adding compost can improve the soil greatly.
π±Β Plants are hardy creatures and will try their best in any conditions.
π±Β However, some drainage, consistency and generally, nutrition is best. (Herbs actually produce more flavour in low nutrition soil though).
π± AVOID adding fertilizer to herb beds / pots for a fuller flavour!Β
π±Β Clay binds the soil and helps prevent the nutrients (NPK) and trace elements being washed away.
π±Β Sand / Gravel / StonesΒ helps break the clay up and provides drainage as well as holding moisture.
Compost adds nutrients to the roils, and microbes which plants needs.
Fresh vegetables peelings will attract earthworms which break down the soil as well as aerating the soil.
It takes 9 months for earthworms to turn over (digest) the soil in a garden.
